AI inventory management: ask ChatGPT or Claude about your stock

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Cursor to Tana. Ask what is running low, find where an item is, and update stock in plain words.

Tana’s AI inventory management is a new feature that connects the AI assistant you already use (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and more) so you can manage inventory by chat.

What you can ask your AI about your inventory

Start with a question you would otherwise answer by scrolling. Your assistant looks up the real numbers in Tana and answers from them.

  • “What’s running low?” It lists the items at or below their alert threshold, and can suggest what to buy soon.
  • “Where are the AA batteries?” It tells you which storages hold the item, how many are in each, and where each storage is.
  • “How long until we run out of printer paper?” It reads the consumption report: how much was used recently and the estimated days left.
  • “Take 3 gloves out of the van.” It adjusts the quantity in that storage, adding or removing. This needs a connection that is allowed to change things.
  • “Add the twelve things on this receipt.” It creates many items in one go, up to 100 per request.

An assistant can misread a request, so check the item before you rely on a change. Anything it changes is recorded in your team’s activity.

Connect your AI to Tana in about a minute

  1. Copy the server address: https://mcp.tana.app
  2. Add it to your assistant as a custom connector (some assistants call it an MCP server).
  3. Sign in to Tana if you are not already, choose which team it may work with, and select Allow.

The button at the top of this page opens Tana’s own “Connect with your AI” page, where the address is ready to copy. Where to paste it depends on the assistant:

Assistant Where to add Tana
ChatGPT Settings, then Connectors. Create a connector named Tana. If custom connectors are not offered, turn on Developer mode first.
Claude Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
Claude Code Run claude mcp add --transport http tana https://mcp.tana.app, then choose Tana in /mcp to sign in.
Cursor Add Tana under mcpServers in mcp.json, then connect it in Cursor’s MCP settings.
Gemini CLI Add Tana to settings.json, then run /mcp auth tana.
Antigravity and other assistants Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP with sign-in can connect.

An assistant that can only run local servers on your own computer cannot connect. The step-by-step guides for each assistant are linked at the end of this page.

What your AI can and can’t do in Tana

You decide how much access it gets, and you can take it back at any time.

  • One team only. A connection sees just the team you pick when you connect. To use another team, connect again and pick that one.
  • Your role applies. It can do what your role in the team lets you do in Tana.
  • Everything is on the record. Change history is recorded in Tana, and you can review it from your AI or from the Tana app.
  • Disconnect whenever you like. Open Settings, then Connected apps, and select Disconnect. The assistant loses access right away.

AI makes inventory management easier

If you use AI every day, you no longer need to open the Tana app. Connect your data to other systems, run advanced analysis — AI makes inventory management even easier.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI assistants work with Tana?

ChatGPT, Claude (on the web, desktop and phone, and Claude Code), Gemini CLI, Cursor and Antigravity all have setup steps. Any other assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP with sign-in can connect too.

Can my AI assistant see my other teams?

No. A connection works with the single team you chose when you connected it. It cannot reach any other team.

Can it delete my items?

The AI works on the data stored in Tana using the permissions you have.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

Open Settings, then Connected apps in Tana, and select Disconnect next to the connection. It stops working immediately. Leaving a team, or having the team deleted, also ends every connection to it.
